About: Soft Power in Hard Times

In hard times, soft power becomes more important.

My name is Martin Gelin and I'm a journalist and author, based in Paris, after two decades in New York City.

I write about the intersection of foreign affairs and culture, and in this newsletter I will explore the shifting landscape of soft power, propaganda and diplomacy, as a new world order emerges, and America retreats from historic alliances.

I have written about these topics for The Guardian, Washington Post, Foreign Policy, Parliament, New York Magazine, Bloomberg and for Swedish media. I am also the author of a forthcoming book on soft power, and I speak regularly about this topic at conferences, embassies and universities – in Taipei, Paris, New York, from the Jaipur Literary Festival, to the Swedish Embassy in London.

For speaking requests, please contact me directly at martin dot gelin at gmail dot com – or reach out to one of the speaking agencies I work with in Sweden.

If you sign up for my newsletter, you'll get access to much of my research before it's published elsewhere.
